Are there any contraindications for this type of consultation?

This type of procedure is not recommended for individuals who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, have certain muscle or nerve conditions, have any skin infections in the areas to be discussed, or have any known allergies to the ingredients of the product used. If you are unsure of your suitability, a consultation with our highly-knowledgeable staff is valuable. This assessment is designed to help you and your practitioner determine your eligibility for the procedure.

What is the expected duration of the effects from this procedure?

The duration of the aesthetic effects from this type of procedure will be discussed during your consultation. The effects are not permanent and typically last for a period of months. This period can vary and may depend on the specific area discussed. Your body eventually metabolises the product, and the timeframe for this varies significantly for each individual. We will discuss the typical schedule for follow-up appointments during your consultation.

Can the effects of this procedure be reversed?

Unlike procedures discussed in Facial Volume Consultations, the effects from this type of procedure cannot be reversed. This is an essential factor that we will discuss with you during your consultation. The effects are not permanent and will gradually dissipate over time as the product is metabolised by your body. The timeframe for this can take several months, depending on the specific areas discussed and your individual response. We will cover this topic thoroughly so you can make an informed decision.

What are the associated risks of this procedure?

The products discussed in these consultations are prescription-only medicines that have been registered by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), which is responsible for regulating medications and medical devices in Australia. As with any medical procedure, there are associated risks and potential complications. We will discuss these with you in detail during your consultation to help you understand what to expect. This procedure should only be administered by a trained medical practitioner. Our team consists of experienced, accredited medical professionals who prioritise patient education and suitability assessment.

Consultations for Jaw Muscle Concerns

What to expect?

Before your procedure, the practitioner will discuss the process and take some before photos for your medical record. The practitioner will request you to fill out a consent form. Following this, the clinician will clean the procedure area. With a fine needle, the clinician will administer the product into the masseter muscle, usually with several points on each side.

What is the downtime?

Patients may experience bruising, but this is uncommon. Usually, patients are able to resume their usual activities straight after the procedure.

What is the cost of this procedure?

The cost of the procedure varies from patient to patient and depends on the plan discussed with your treating clinician to align with your aesthetic goals. The treating clinician can assess your areas of concern and develop a customised procedure plan based on your goals, health, and concerns. Prices start at $400 per procedure.

What are the post-procedure considerations for this service?

To support you post-procedure, your clinician will provide you with a follow-up plan, which may include:

  • Do not touch the skin in the area
  • Do not exercise for 4 hours post-procedure
  • Stay away from extreme temperatures, such as saunas, hydrotherapy, ice baths, or hot yoga for 24 hours

Are there any risks or complications associated with this procedure?

Patients may experience bruising and swelling, which are typically temporary but can last up to a week or two.

Regardless of the cosmetic or medical procedure, you should be aware of the associated risks and complications before deciding on any service. As this procedure involves a prescription medicine, there are specific risks. We will discuss these with you in detail, but they may include:

  • Facial asymmetry or a temporary change to your smile
  • Allergic reaction
  • Temporary swelling
  • Bruises
  • Skin discolouration
  • Itching
  • Redness

We will discuss these possibilities thoroughly during your consultation.

Sounds great. Where do I start?

Before undergoing any procedure, you must register at our Shellharbour clinic for an initial consultation with our qualified clinical team. During your consultation, you will discuss your lifestyle and health, including medical history, allergies, and any medications or supplements you may be taking. It is important to mention any allergic reactions to drugs or skin care products you may have experienced in the past and any other recent cosmetic services or procedures you’ve had. These factors can affect how your body may respond and what to expect post-procedure.

If you have any concerns, the consultation is the time to ask questions about the procedure. Your clinician will ask about your current concerns and reasons for exploring a cosmetic procedure and will evaluate the area. You should discuss what you hope to achieve and your aesthetic goals. All the information you provide during the consultation is essential to developing a customised procedure plan that considers your health and concerns, which will help you make an informed decision about your suitability for this procedure.

Facial Volume Consultations

Are there any contraindications for these procedures?

These types of procedures are not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women and individuals with certain health concerns such as autoimmune disease, skin inflammation or infection, asthma, and severe allergies. If you are unsure of your suitability, you can book an initial consultation to discuss your concerns, and if required, our knowledgeable clinicians can discuss other options with you.

Will the procedure be uncomfortable?

The products discussed in these consultations often contain a local anaesthetic. Your practitioner will discuss comfort management with you, which may include the use of topical anaesthetic, to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible.

What specific concerns can be discussed in these consultations?

We can explore options and discuss your suitability for procedures related to a variety of concerns, including:

  • Lower Face Consultations (for the appearance of marionette lines)
  • Consultations for Lip Concerns
  • Consultations for Age-Related Volume Loss
  • Scar Management Consultations (for the appearance of facial scarring)
  • Consultations for Cheek Concerns
  • Consultations for Smile Lines (for the appearance of nasolabial folds)

During your consultation, we will assess your suitability and help you understand the realistic expectations and what can be discussed for your specific areas of concern.

What types of products are discussed?

Hyaluronic acid is a popular substance discussed for these procedures. This is because hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the body. When used in a clinical setting, it is a gel-like substance. We will discuss its properties and how it is designed to interact with the skin’s structure.

Collagen-stimulating substances are another option that can be discussed. These are also composed of substances that interact with your body’s natural processes. We can discuss the different properties of these substances and which might be appropriate to consider for your consultation, based on your aesthetic goals.

How many sessions may be discussed?

The effects of these procedures are not permanent. The duration of the aesthetic effect can vary significantly based on how fast an individual’s body metabolises the product. We will discuss the expected timeframe with you. Generally, patients schedule follow-up appointments to review their aesthetic goals and discuss future plans.

Ultrasound-Assisted Consultations

What to expect?

On the day of your appointment, the Doctor or Nurse will scan the area with a handheld ultrasound machine. Once the doctor or nurse identifies and marks out the area for the procedure, they will show you the area and ask for your confirmation that this is where you agree to the procedure. Before proceeding, the doctor or nurse will take photos of the area and store them securely in your file. The medical team will then prepare a specific enzyme and administer it into the zones outlined.

We will discuss what to expect immediately after the procedure. You will likely experience bruising and swelling, which we will monitor with you. This can take 2-4 weeks to fully settle.

What is the cost of this procedure?

The cost of an ultrasound-assisted consultation and procedure varies from patient to patient and depends on the amount of product used and the area being discussed to align with your goals. We always recommend that our patients have an initial consultation in our clinic to determine the cost. The Doctor can assess your areas of concern and develop a customised plan based on your goals, health, and concerns. As a guide, prices start at $245.

What are the post-procedure considerations for this service?

The effect of the dissolving agent is permanent. We will discuss this thoroughly with you. Sometimes, multiple sessions may be discussed. We will develop a plan that outlines the estimated financial requirement and steps. Unless there is a vascular occlusion (an emergency situation, which we will explain), it is up to you to decide whether to proceed with this procedure.

To support you post-procedure, your doctor or nurse will provide you with a follow-up plan, which may include:

  • Take pain relief as required
  • Do not touch the site of insertion
  • Give your skin a few makeup-free days after the procedure
  • Do not exercise for a week after the procedure
  • Do not use active skin care products for at least five days after the procedure
  • Avoid skin procedures that may cause stress on the skin, such as microdermabrasion, micro-needling, and facial massage
  • Stay away from extreme temperatures, such as saunas, hydrotherapy, ice baths, or hot yoga, until complete recovery
  • Avoid inverted positions and keep your head elevated for the first four hours after the procedure

Are there any risks or complications associated with this procedure?

Regardless of the cosmetic or medical procedure, you should be aware of the associated risks and complications before deciding on any service. This procedure carries the following potential risks and complications:

  • Allergic reaction
  • Scarring
  • Blisters
  • Swelling
  • Bruises

What to expect while having this type of procedure?

Whether you are undergoing a procedure following Consultations for Actinic Keratosis, Pre-cancerous Lesion Management, or Light-Activated Skin Therapy Consultations, there are expected skin reactions. During the procedure, the area of your skin being discussed will look and feel irritated. The redness, inflammation, irritation, crusting, and peeling you see are expected reactions to this type of procedure. While this stage might be uncomfortable, it is important that you do not stop the procedure without checking with your doctor first.

It is important to practice sun avoidance in the weeks during this procedure. For this reason, we typically advise these procedures during the cooler months of the year wherever possible.

Skin Laser Consultations using Alma Hybrid™ by Alma™

What to expect?

The post-procedure experience for an Alma Hybrid™ consultation varies in downtime, depending on the settings discussed and the concerns we are focusing on. More intensive procedures will require more downtime.

Using different settings during an Alma Hybrid™ procedure can lead to different side effects. We will discuss what to expect, which may include redness, flaking, darkening of pigment, swelling, oozing, and bleeding. Following any laser procedure, patients must strictly avoid sun exposure; this is particularly important when deeper settings are used. This is an expected part of the post-procedure experience and typically settles within 2-4 weeks.

How does it work?

The Alma Hybrid™ Laser is the first technology of its kind to combine a CO2 fractional laser and a non-ablative 1570nm laser. It also features IMPACT ultrasound technology.

The Alma Hybrid™ also has the option of employing sonophoresis, which is designed to be used with certain topical products. This means we can discuss the application of Advanced Skin Consultations (Exosomes), Consultations for Skin Hydration (NCTF serum), Consultations for Skin Hydration and Texture (skin boosters), hyaluronic acid, and other topical products.

With this one machine, we can discuss options for the appearance of wrinkles, deep pitted acne and surgical scarring, enlarged pores, skin laxity, and other textural concerns. Between 1-6 sessions may be discussed depending on the intensity of the procedure and your specific goals. A single-session approach would involve significant downtime… whereas a multi-session approach involves minimal downtime. That is the versatility of the Alma Hybrid™ Laser. We can customise the settings to suit your schedule.

What areas can be discussed?

Besides the face and body, a key feature of this technology is its use for consultations regarding the eyelid area, often called periorbital consultations. The procedure can be discussed for its application on the skin around the eye area and its use in relation to the appearance of wrinkles.

What is the expected downtime?

Between 1-6 sessions may be discussed depending on the intensity of the procedure and your areas of focus. A single-session approach would involve significant downtime as it employs more intensive settings, whereas a multi-session approach involves minimal downtime.

What is the cost of an Alma Hybrid™ consultation?

The cost of an Alma Hybrid™ procedure varies from patient to patient… We always recommend that our patients have an initial complimentary consultation in our clinic to determine the exact cost. The treating clinician can assess your areas of concern and develop a customised plan based on your goals, health, and concerns. Prices start at $245 for a small scar area.

Post-Procedure Care and Expectations for Alma Hybrid™?

The aesthetic effects following this procedure will vary from patient to patient. For discussions related to the appearance of wrinkles, it is important to understand that we cannot stop the natural ageing process. The appearance of wrinkles may continue to change over time, which means regular maintenance sessions may be discussed.

To support you post-procedure, your doctor will provide you with a follow-up plan, which may include:

  • Sleeping with your head elevated on pillows if swelling is present
  • Take pain relief and/or antibiotics as required
  • Do not touch the skin
  • Do not wear makeup for the time after the procedure as recommended by the treating clinician

Are there any risks or complications associated with Alma Hybrid™?

Regardless of the cosmetic or medical procedure, you should be aware of the associated risks and complications before deciding. Alma Hybrid™ procedures carry the following potential risks and complications:

  • Allergic reaction or histamine response
  • Scarring
  • Blisters
  • Swelling
  • Bruises
  • Skin discolouration
  • Itching
  • Redness

Is the Alma Hybrid™ procedure uncomfortable?

It can be, depending on the setting we use. We can provide pain relief options, such as happy gas, if required.

How long does the procedure take?

A complete Alma Hybrid™ procedure will take about 30 minutes to administer, so allow yourself 45 minutes for the full appointment, including cleansing and finishing products.

How do I prepare for an Alma Hybrid™ procedure?

No specific preparation is required for this procedure. However, minimal sun exposure for the 5 days prior is required. As we are using a laser, the doctor will need to review the areas of discussion for safety.

What can be discussed regarding wrinkles?

During your consultation, we can discuss the use of Alma Hybrid™ technology for exploring options related to the appearance of wrinkles. We will help you understand what to expect and the suitability of this procedure for your specific concerns. It is not possible to guarantee the removal of wrinkles.

LED (Derma-Lux Triwave)

How many sessions of Derma-lux Triwave may be discussed?

Each patient will be recommended a different number of sessions depending on several factors, including your skin type, area of discussion, and skin concerns. In your consultation, Dr Barney Gordon will assess this and provide you with an approximate number of sessions that may be part of your plan.

Can I have this procedure at the same time as another service?

Those looking to have other skin procedures should consider scheduling them on the same day as their Derma-lux Triwave session. This phototherapy system can be combined with other services, and in some cases, it may be used following other procedures. Contact our team to organise and discuss your next skincare appointments.

IPL and BBL Treatments

How many sessions are needed?

This can depend on the amount and extent of your skin concerns. Your clinician may recommend a course of sessions to align with your desired aesthetic goals.

BBL Hero Body

Is this procedure uncomfortable?

The procedure is not intended to be painful, and many patients find the sensation of the light energy tolerable. However, if a patient requests, we can apply anaesthetic creams to the area to assist with comfort during the process.

Who is the BBL Hero Body suited to?

The BBL Hero Body consultation is for patients who wish to discuss the appearance of skin in various areas of the body. The BBL Hero can be discussed for its application on skin with the appearance of sun damage, signs of ageing, broken capillaries, acne, scarring, redness, and rosacea. To determine if you are a suitable candidate for this type of procedure, contact Shellharbour Skin Clinic today.

Scar Management Consultations

What are the options discussed for scars?

Options we can discuss include topical products, minimally invasive procedures like Collagen Induction Consultations (micro-needling) and Advanced Chemical Peels, laser therapy with our Alma Hybrid CO2, Consultations for Inflammatory Conditions (steroid injections), Consultations for Deep Acne Scars (TCA Cross), Consultations for Tethered Scars (subcision), and surgical procedures.

Will the appearance of my scars change over time without a procedure?

While the appearance of some scars may change naturally over time, others may remain prominent. A consultation is a way to explore options for managing the appearance of scars.

What is the timeline for scar management procedures?

The timeline for any aesthetic change varies depending on the type of procedure and the individual. Some procedures may show a change in appearance in as little as a few weeks, while others may require several months to discuss the final aesthetic outcome.

Are scar management procedures uncomfortable?

Discomfort levels associated with scar management procedures can vary depending on the specific procedure and individual tolerance. Many procedures are well-tolerated with the use of topical anaesthesia or numbing creams.

Are there any potential side effects or risks associated with scar management?

While scar management procedures are generally considered safe, we will discuss potential side effects… which may include temporary redness, swelling, itching, or changes in pigmentation. We will also discuss rare complications, such as infection or scarring, during your consultation.

Can scar management procedures completely eliminate the appearance of scars?

While scar management consultations can explore options to significantly improve the appearance of scars, complete elimination may not always be possible. However, procedures can often minimise their visibility and texture, resulting in a smoother, more uniform-looking skin texture.

Are scar management consultations suitable for all skin types and tones?

Many scar management options are suitable for various skin types and tones. However, certain procedures may carry a higher risk of adverse effects for individuals with darker skin tones. We will assess this during your consultation.

Are there any lifestyle changes I should make to support the outcomes of a scar management plan?

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including proper skincare, hydration, and avoiding smoking and excessive sun exposure, can help support the outcomes of your scar management plan and promote your skin’s overall appearance.

How do I choose the right scar management option for my specific type of scarring?

A consultation with a clinician at Shellharbour Skin is essential for determining the most suitable scar management option based on your unique skin type, scar characteristics, aesthetic goals, and medical history.

HydrafacialTM

What to expect during your consultation?

The Hydrafacial™ is a multi-step experience. We will discuss what to expect during your session, which is typically associated with minimal social downtime, allowing you to return to your usual activities. We will also discuss post-session considerations in detail. After your Hydrafacial™ session, it is important to strictly avoid sun exposure as the skin has been addressed manually and chemically, with various gentle solutions applied. If there are other symptoms, such as redness, tenderness, or pain, this may indicate a possible severe reaction. If patients notice these symptoms, they should contact our clinic immediately.

What is the cost of a Hydrafacial™ session?

The cost of a Hydrafacial™ session varies from patient to patient and depends on the type of plan discussed with your treating clinician to align with your aesthetic goals. We always recommend that our patients have an initial consultation in our clinic to determine the potential cost. The treating clinician can assess your areas of concern and develop a customised plan based on your goals, health, and concerns.

What are the aftercare considerations for a Hydrafacial™?

The individual experience following a Hydrafacial™ session can vary. A plan involving repeated sessions may be discussed to support your skin’s natural processes. Factors such as exposure to UV rays, cigarette or e-cigarette smoke, excessive alcohol consumption, or diet can all influence your skin’s condition.

To support your skin post-session, your clinician will provide you with a follow-up plan, which may include:

  • Do not touch the skin
  • Do not wear makeup for 24 hours after the session
  • Do not exercise for 12 hours after the session
  • Do not use active skin care products for at least five days after the session.
  • Avoid skin sessions that may cause stress on the skin, such as microdermabrasion, micro-needling, and facial massage
  • Stay away from extreme temperatures, such as saunas, hydrotherapy, ice baths, or hot yoga for 24 hours

Are there any risks or complications associated with a Hydrafacial™?

  • Allergic reaction
  • Scarring
  • Blisters
  • Swelling
  • Bruises
  • Skin discolouration
  • Itching
  • Redness

Sounds great. Where do I start?

Before booking a Hydrafacial™ consultation, you must register at our Shellharbour clinic for an initial consultation with our qualified clinical team. During your consultation, you will discuss your lifestyle and health, including medical history, allergies, and any medications or supplements you may be taking. It is important to mention any allergic reactions to drugs or skin care products you may have experienced in the past and any other recent cosmetic or skin sessions you’ve had. These factors affect how your body might respond and inform the post-session experience.

If you have any concerns, a consultation is when you ask questions about the session. Your clinician will ask about your current areas of concern and reasons for exploring a cosmetic session, and evaluate the area. You should discuss your aesthetic goals. All the information you provide during the consultation is essential to developing a customised plan that considers your health, concerns and what to expect from the session, to ensure the plan is appropriate for you.

Advanced Chemical Peels

How many advanced chemical peel sessions will be discussed?

Each patient may have a different number of sessions discussed as part of their plan. This will depend on the areas of concern, the patient’s skin characteristics, and the number of areas being discussed. A plan may involve a single session or a series of sessions spaced over time. Dr Barney Gordon will give you an estimate of how many sessions may be appropriate to discuss for your individual case.

What is the typical experience after a session?

The experience after a peel session varies for each patient. It is common for the discussed area to appear red, and this redness may last for a period, potentially up to a month. Your clinician will discuss the typical post-session experience with you, including what to expect during the days and weeks following your session.

What should I avoid doing after a session?

It is important that patients do not pick at the skin as it recovers or feels dry. Allow any flaking to resolve naturally. Wear sunscreen and moisturiser as advised after the session. It is important to follow the specific guidance provided on moisturiser application. If you are feeling any discomfort, it is important to use a cold compress as discussed in your aftercare plan, rather than leaving the area as is.

Non-Surgical Lifting Consultations
Consultations for Skin Texture

What to expect during the session?

Your practitioner will cleanse the area before the session. Your clinician will discuss the suitability of options, which may include a product like CaHa (Calcium Hydroxylapatite). If you choose to proceed, this is administered using a fine needle or cannula into the desired areas. The session is relatively quick, and we aim to make it as comfortable as possible.

What is the downtime?

Typically, patients experience minimal downtime. Some may have mild swelling or bruising, which usually resolves within a few days. Most people return to their normal activities shortly after the session.

What is the cost of these consultations?

The cost varies based on individual needs, the areas discussed, and the amount of product potentially used. A personalised consultation will provide a more accurate cost estimation based on your specific goals and requirements.

What are the aftercare considerations?

It is important to follow the recommended aftercare instructions to support your recovery. These instructions might include avoiding strenuous activities for a short period and applying ice to reduce swelling.

What are the specific aftercare instructions?

Consultations for Skin Quality & Volume

What to expect?

Before starting your session, the practitioner will clean the area. Your practitioner will then use a cannula or needle to place a precise amount of product (PLLA) under the skin in the selected location. Depending on the amount of product used and the area discussed, your clinician will discuss what to expect during and after the session.

What is the downtime?

Patients may experience bruising and swelling, which usually resolves within a few days, but full recovery may take a week or two. Some patients may notice raised bumps or bumps on the skin, which are usually not cause for concern unless accompanied by other symptoms, such as redness, tenderness, or pain, which may show a possible severe allergic reaction or infection. If patients notice these symptoms, they should contact our clinic immediately. After undergoing a PLLA session, if there are other symptoms, such as redness, tenderness, or pain, this may indicate a possible severe allergic reaction or infection. If patients notice these symptoms, they should contact our clinic immediately.

What is the cost of these consultations?

The cost of PLLA sessions varies from patient to patient and depends on the type of plan discussed by your treating clinician to align with your aesthetic goals. We always recommend that our patients have an initial consultation in our clinic to determine the cost of a PLLA plan. The treating clinician can assess your areas of concern and develop a customised plan based on your goals, health, and concerns. Prices start at $795 per vial.

What are the aftercare considerations for PLLA?

PLLA sessions must be followed by the 5-5-5 rule. 5 minutes of massage, 5 times per day, for 5 days. This is a vital part of the aftercare process.

The individual experience following PLLA sessions can vary. Maintenance sessions may be recommended yearly as part of an ongoing plan. There are no general rules for how long an individual’s experience lasts, and it will vary from patient to patient, especially if patients are exposed to excessive UV rays, cigarette or e-cigarette smoke, excessive alcohol consumption, or a poor diet.

To support your recovery, your clinician will provide you with a follow-up plan, which may include:

  • Do not touch the skin
  • Do not wear makeup for 24 hours after the session
  • Do not exercise for 12 hours after the session
  • Do not use active skin care products for at least five days after the session.
  • Avoid skin sessions that may cause stress on the skin, such as microdermabrasion, micro-needling, and facial massage
  • Stay away from extreme temperatures, such as saunas, hydrotherapy, ice baths, or hot yoga for 24 hours

Are there any risks or complications associated with PLLA sessions?

Patients may experience bruising and swelling, which usually resolves within a few days, but full recovery may take a week or two. Regardless of the cosmetic or medical session, you should know the associated risks and complications before deciding on any option. PLLA sessions carry the following risks and complications:

It is important to mention any allergic reactions to drugs or skin care products you may have experienced in the past and any other recent beauty treatments you’ve had. These factors affect how your body might respond and inform the post-session experience.

If you have any concerns, a consultation is when you ask questions about the session. Your clinician will ask about your current areas of concern and reasons for exploring a cosmetic session and evaluate the area of concern. You should discuss your aesthetic goals. All the information you provide during the consultation is essential to developing a customised plan that considers your health, concerns and what to expect, to ensure the plan is appropriate for you.

Consultations for Skin Hydration and Texture

What to expect?

On the day of your appointment, the treating clinician will assess you. Once the treating clinician identifies and marks out the area for the session, they will show it to you and ask for your confirmation that this is where you agree to proceed. The treating clinician will take photos and store them securely on your file prior to the session, and shortly afterwards. The experience from these sessions is not immediate. You may not notice a significant change from a single session.

A plan may involve a required number of sessions. The full experience of these sessions may become apparent over time, potentially up to 6 months after the course of sessions. Bruising and swelling will begin shortly after the session and will take 2-4 weeks to fully settle. When combining these consultations with RF Micro-needling using the Sylfirm X, you may notice redness.

Some patients may notice significant swelling in the area. This settles within 2 weeks and is an expected part of the post-session experience. If there are other symptoms, such as redness, tenderness, or pain, this may indicate a possible severe allergic reaction or infection. If patients notice these symptoms, they should contact our clinic immediately.

What is the cost of these consultations?

The cost of a session varies from patient to patient and depends on the type of plan discussed by your treating clinician to align with your aesthetic goals. We always recommend that our patients have an initial consultation in our clinic to determine the cost of a plan. The treating clinician can assess your areas of concern and develop a customised plan based on your goals, health, and concerns.

What are the post-session considerations for these consultations?

An individual’s experience following these sessions can vary. Follow-up sessions may be required as part of an ongoing plan. Most times, multiple sessions are discussed and may be considered in combination with other options, such as RF micro-needling, Consultations for Fine Lines and Wrinkles, and Facial Volume Consultations. During the consultation, we will discuss this in depth and agree upon a plan outlining the estimated financial requirement. A single session starts at $195.

To support your recovery, your treating clinician will provide you with a follow-up plan, which may include:

  • Take pain relief as required
  • Do not touch the site of insertion
  • Avoid wearing makeup after the session for a few days.
  • Do not exercise for a week after the session
  • Do not use active skin care products for at least five days after the session.
  • Avoid skin sessions that may cause stress on the skin, such as microdermabrasion, micro-needling, and facial massage.
  • Stay away from extreme temperatures, such as saunas, hydrotherapy, ice baths, or hot yoga, until complete recovery.
  • Avoid inverted positions and keep your head elevated for the first four hours after the session.

Are there risks or complications with these sessions?

Regardless of the cosmetic or medical session, you should know the associated risks and complications before deciding on any option. These sessions carry the following risks and complications:

Consultations for Skin Appearance

What to expect?

The clinician uses a fine needle to perform Rejuran™ sessions, which takes between 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the area/s to be discussed, and we aim to make the session as comfortable as possible. There a lot of small and precise injection points into the skin. We use a strong topical anesthetic cream prior to sessions.

What is the downtime?

There is downtime with Polynucleotide sessions. The area can look lumpy and bumpy (almost reptilian like), and this persists for up to 24 hours. Swelling and bruising, lasting up to 1 week, are common side effects of the session. After undergoing a Rejuran™ session, if there are other symptoms, such as redness, tenderness, or pain, this may indicate a possible severe allergic reaction or infection. If patients notice these symptoms, they should contact our clinic immediately.

What is the cost of these consultations?

The cost of these sessions varies from patient to patient and depends on the type of plan discussed by your treating clinician to align with your aesthetic goals. We always recommend that our patients have an initial consultation in our clinic to determine the cost of a plan. The treating clinician can assess your areas of concern and develop a customised plan based on your goals, health, and concerns. Prices start at $495 per session.

What are the aftercare considerations for these sessions?

The individual experience following these sessions can vary.

Consultations for Lip Concerns

How long might the experience last?

The individual experience from consultations for lip concerns can vary. Patients may find their experience lasts between 6 to 12 months, depending on how quickly their body metabolises the product. Patients can undergo multiple sessions at intervals as part of an ongoing plan.

What is a ‘lip flip’?

A “lip flip” is an option that can be discussed for patients who would like to explore a different approach to lip concerns. This session focuses on the upper lip, involving the muscle around the mouth, which may alter the appearance of the upper lip. This session is associated with an experience that typically lasts between six to eight weeks.

Consultation for Under-Eye Volume

Are these sessions uncomfortable?

Of course, the experience of having needles near your eyes can make most patients nervous, which we work to mitigate by providing a comfortable space. The injections feel similar to a slight pinch, and a bit of pressure as the gel is injected. We also work to minimise any discomfort by numbing the area beforehand and using anaesthesia if required.

Am I a suitable candidate for this consultation?

You may be a suitable candidate for these sessions if you meet the following:

  • Have mild to moderate skin sagging around and under the eyes.
  • Have thick, healthy skin.
  • Have realistic expectations about the consultation and process.
  • Understand that any potential outcome is not permanent.
  • Are physically healthy.

However, you may not be eligible for the session if:

  • You have thin skin or excess skin and fat beneath the eyes.
  • You have deep tear troughs.
  • You have an active skin infection in the area.
  • You have a medical condition that could potentially raise complications.
  • You have dark, pigmented circles under your eyes.
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Consultations for Smile Lines

How long might the experience last?

The individual experience from these consultations can last different lengths of time for every patient, depending on how quickly your body metabolises the product. Generally, the experience can last between 6 to 12 months, but you may need another session at the six-month interval as part of an ongoing plan.

What causes nasolabial folds?

The most common belief is that nasolabial folds are caused by smiling and other repetitive facial muscle movements, but this is a secondary cause of nasolabial folds. As part of our natural ageing, we lose bone mass and volume in the face from a lack of collagen and elastin production, causing facial folds to form. Many factors can make you more vulnerable to developing nasolabial folds, including genetics, sun exposure damage, and lifestyle choices such as smoking.

Ultrasound-Assisted Consultations

What to expect?

On the day of your appointment, the Doctor or Nurse will scan the area with a handheld ultrasound machine. Once the doctor or nurse identifies and marks out the area of concern, they will show you the area and ask for your confirmation that this is where you agree to proceed. Before the session, the doctor or nurse will take photos of the area and store them securely in your file. The medical team will then prepare the product (Hyalase) and inject it into the zones outlined. Bruising and swelling will begin shortly after the session and will take 2-4 weeks to fully settle.

What is the cost of these consultations?

The cost of ultrasound-assisted consultations varies from patient to patient and depends on the amount of product used and the area being discussed to align with your goals. We always recommend that our patients have an initial consultation in our clinic to determine the cost of their session. The Doctor can assess your areas of concern and develop a customised plan based on your goals, health, and concerns. As a guide, prices start at $245.

What are the aftercare considerations for these sessions?

The action of the product used is permanent and irreversible. Sometimes, multiple sessions are required, as well as post-session discussions about further options, such as Facial Volume Consultations, to discuss the subsequent appearance. During the consultation, we thoroughly discuss this and come to an agreement on a plan that outlines the estimated financial requirement. Unless there is a vascular occlusion, it is up to the patient to decide whether to leave the filler in place.

To support your recovery, your doctor or nurse will provide you with a follow-up plan, which may include:

  • Take pain relief as required
  • Do not touch the site of insertion
  • Give your skin a few makeup-free days after the session.

Are there any risks or complications associated with these sessions?

Regardless of the cosmetic or medical session, you should know the associated risks and complications before deciding on any option. These sessions carry the following risks and complications:

Consultations for Skin Tone & Texture

What to expect?

At the start of your consultation, we will begin by cleansing your skin and performing a thorough analysis to determine if Consultations for Skin Tone & Texture using the Laser Genesis™ device are an appropriate option to discuss for your skin concerns. If suitable, we can then proceed with the session. As the laser is applied, you will feel warmth on your skin – some people have compared it to warm oil being dropped on the skin. The goal is to warm the targeted area, but don’t worry; the heat dissipates quickly.

How does it work?

We will discuss how the Laser Genesis™ device works, utilising non-invasive laser technology to target the deeper layers of the skin. Specifically, it emits micro-pulses of laser energy that gently heat the dermis. This process is discussed in relation to supporting the skin’s natural processes. We can explore this option in relation to your specific skin concerns, such as the appearance of fine lines, uneven skin tone, and texture. We can also discuss its use for addressing skin with redness or a history of acne. Overall, the consultation is designed to help you understand this technology and what to expect from a session.

What is the downtime?

Laser Genesis sessions are associated with little to no downtime. If you have a history of sensitive skin or a strong histamine response, please discuss this with your clinician. You’ll leave Shellharbour Skin feeling warm and flushed, which is a common experience. SPF is a non-negotiable part of your post-session care, and we recommend avoiding the sun for about five days post-session.

What is the cost of a Laser Genesis consultation?

The cost of Consultations for Skin Tone & Texture varies from patient to patient and depends on the type of plan discussed with your treating clinician to align with your aesthetic goals. We always recommend that our patients have an initial consultation in our clinic to determine the exact cost of a potential session. The treating clinician can assess your areas of concern and develop a customised plan based on your goals, health, and concerns. Prices start at $195 per session of a full face.

What are the aftercare considerations for Consultations for Skin Tone & Texture?

During the session, the device is applied to the skin. Our clinicians will discuss the expected experience and the importance of a consistent plan, which may involve 4-6 appointments at 2-4-week intervals. On the day of your session, your skin may feel hydrated. To support your skin post-session, we recommend a personalised home care routine and daily sun protection. We’ll work with you to create a customised home care plan that addresses your specific concerns and aligns with your aesthetic goals.

There are no general rules for how long the individual experience lasts, and it will vary from patient to patient, especially if patients are exposed to excessive UV rays, cigarette or e-cigarette smoke, excessive alcohol consumption, or a poor diet.
