About Shellharbour Skin

Shellharbour Skin is a brand new, purpose-built clinic with a dedicated onsite operating theater located in the heart of Shellharbour, 15 minutes south of Wollongong and 10 minutes north of Kiama. We strive to offer our patients the latest treatment options in a relaxed environment. Our skin checks are thorough and treatment plans comprehensive.

Shellharbour Skin clinic uses the finest instruments and equipment to optimise your outcomes. We aim for you to leave having experienced the very best in medical care.

Our standard doctor appointment is 15 minutes because we know there is nothing worse than feeling rushed out the door. We recommend a procedure only when it is clinically indicated and give you time to consider your options.

About Dr Barney Gordon

FRACGP, BMedSc, MBBS, ACCSCMS, ACCD, DHC, ACAM, ACD

Dr Gordon is a specialist General Practitioner who has undergone further training to be an Accredited Skin Cancer doctor with the Skin Cancer College of Australasia. He has completed postgraduate studies in the fields of child health, dermatology and aesthetic medicine.

Dr Gordon first completed a Bachelor of Medical Science at the University of Wollongong before moving north to the Gold Coast to study Medicine at Griffith University. Dr Gordon completed his internship and residency at the Gold Coast University Hospital before moving to far north Queensland to complete his General Practice Fellowship including extended skills training in the field of skin cancer.

Now settled back in the Illawarra, Dr Barney wants to provide the local community with a high quality skin clinic. He enjoys serving the local community and working with patients to create a treatment plan.

Barney understands that life in the Illawarra involves time in the sun. He is married with 3 young children and spends his weekends on the water be it fishing, surfing, stand up paddle boarding or windsurfing. He also competes in triathlons and rides mountain bikes when time allows. He is an avid gardener and amatuar bee keeper.

BMedSc – Bachelor of medical science, UOW.

MBBS – Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, Griffith.

ACCSCMS – Advanced clinical certificate in skin cancer medicine and surgery.

ACCD – Advanced clinical certificate in dermoscopy.

DCH – Diploma in Child health.

ACAM – Advanced Certificate in Aesthetic medicine.

ACD – Advanced Certificate of General Dermatology.

Meet Our Team

Dr Barney Gordon

Megan - Practice Manager

As the Practice Manager, Megan is responsible for the background running of Shellharbour Skin, including social media and information technology (IT). She has an extensive history of managing large medical centres with advanced skills and knowledge in ensuring the clinic runs smoothly, especially in a busy environment. Megan takes enormous pride in maintaining a well-run clinic, contributing to our patients’ progress in reaching their goals.

Amanda - Registered Nurse

Amanda has been a Registered Nurse for over 10 years. For the last 6 years, she has been working exclusively in aesthetics.

Amanda has undertaken extensive training in cosmetic injectables, laser and skin treatments. She is highly experienced and passionate about making people look and feel their best, using the most advanced, up to date practices.

Her focus is on natural looking, bespoke aesthetic treatments for the face and body. Her favourite treatment is biostimulators (fillers that stimulate collagen production).

As well as undertaking injectable and skin treatments at Shellharbour Skin, Amanda assists Dr Barney Gordon during skin cancer examinations and minor surgery. Amanda has a keen interest in skin cancer prevention and treatment.

Amanda works in the clinic on Tuesday and Friday. On her days off, she is a busy Mum of two boys. Her hobbies are surfing, painting, and writing a fiction novel.

Whitney - Dermal Clinician

Whitney is a Dermal Clinician with 15 years of experience in the skin, health, and beauty industry. She graduated with distinction from the Bachelor of Dermal Sciences at Victoria University in Melbourne. During her career, Whitney has worked alongside specialist plastic surgeons, dermatologists and dermal clinicians in clinics across Sydney and Melbourne.

Whitney has a passion for vascular and inflammatory skin. She has undertaken advanced training with laser and skin needling to provide colour correction, skin health and optimise overall skin integrity. Alongside her interest in skin, Whitney has a thirst for knowledge and is constantly finding new ways to optimise patient results with new clinical treatments and cosmeceutical skincare prescriptions.

Whitney is with us on a Tuesday while completing her Master of Education. She also does some sessional lecturing and dermal consulting. And, when she’s not here, you’ll find her outside, slathered in sunscreen, likely listening to Lady Gaga.

Amanda - Dermal Clinician

In 2010, Amanda completed her bachelor’s degree in Health Science, specialising in Dermal Therapies, after working as a beauty therapist for many years. Since the beginning of her career, her focus has always been on clinical treatments such as laser, radio frequency, and chemical peels. She has worked in many leading Australian clinics where she performed dermal treatments, laser rejuvenation, and injectable treatments. After three years of dermal and management experience in Melbourne, followed by an additional two years in London, Amanda returned to Australia to pursue a career in education. She worked as a clinical educator and coach for one of Australia’s most prominent cosmetic distributors, which took her worldwide, training and educating like-minded therapists, nurses, and doctors. Amanda and her family now reside on the South Coast, and she is proud to be a part of the Shellharbour Skin team.
